  1. Throughout high school we have been given a countless amount of books to read, and for the most part I have skimmed through most of the books without fully reading them, but there are some books that I have honestly taken the time to read, and those books have turned out to be very good. The first book I read when I was going into freshman year is “The Five People you meet in Heaven.” This book is about an old man who spends his life working at amusement park. At the time of his death he feels that he has wasted his life and he feels as he has no real meaning. In heaven, moments of his life that show significance are replayed for him. This book was very moving because it shows that everyone, individually, has meaning. I think that anyone, no matter how fine they may look, needs to read this book. I think that all teenagers need that sense of importance because this is one of the most fragile times of our lives, making this book almost a necessity.
The second book that I think should be read is “Catch me if you can.” This is the first book I read this year and in my opinion it was the best. It is about a young man who finds very creative ways to steal at age 14. He then runs away from home after almost being caught committing credit fraud, he then escapes all over the country and fakes being many things such as a co-pilot and a lawyer. The story was the most thrilling novel I have ever read, and behind that was a very creative and intelligent mind. I suggest this to all high school readers simply because of the thrill, and let’s be honest, who doesn’t like a thrilling read? When it comes to thrills I think this is the best of the best.

  2. During my senior year I have read a lot of books. Some were good and very entertaining while others made me tired and very confused. 2 of my favorite books that i have read this year though are A Long Way Gone and Hamlet.
I really was interested in A Long Way Gone because of how Ishmael managed to survive that terrible war he was in the middle of. I would recommend this book to every high school kid because of the great literature it contained. It contained all the problems kids can relate to now a days because of the wars and the amount of violence and drugs in this world. It is a book that keeps everyone interested in and is also a very easy read for everyone.
The other book I like was Hamlet. This book is also for everyone because of how it relates to this world today. It shows people just how crazy the world is and how the people in the world act towards family and how revenge is taken. Even though it was confusing at times it was still easy to pick up and understand the concept of the story. These two books are very good and interesting books that every high school kid will most likely enjoy and get alot out of them.

  3. I think that Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult and 1000 Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini should be required books that each high school student is mandatory to read. These two books have two completely different lessons that can be taught, but each lesson is relevant to society and what’s going on all around the world.
Nineteen minutes deals with challenges many people entering or currently in high school face. Unwanted pregnancy, bullying, self-esteem and confidence, suicide, and loneliness are some. Reading Nineteen Minutes will show the improper and proper ways to deal with the problems they’re facing but I believe it will give students the courage they need to tell someone, like an adult or person they trust and seek help rather than dealing with the issues alone.
1000 Splendid Suns will show the students life in a different country with many different cultures. This should be a required book because it shows the challenges that women had to face and the abuse they suffered because of their religion. It will bring the awareness of spousal abuse to the surface and explain why it is allowed and no one is trying to stop it. The book will teach the children about appreciating their religion and where they live but also educate them about other cultures and religions.

  4. I think every student should " The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard E. Connell. This is a Story about a man that is shipwrecked on an island and he finds a mansion and long story short the owner ends up trying to kill the man. This story is very interesting to read and kept my attention, which is very hard to do. Another book is The Catcher In The Rye. This was a very interesting book and was controversial in its time. It is a good insight on some of the almost normal teenage life. It was funny at times and was a good read.

  5. The two books I have enjoyed reading the most in my high school career, are The Catcher in the Rye, and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. I think any kid should read these, not only because of their great stories; but also for their innovative and deep styles that place the reader in the mind of someone else. I loved these books because of their perspectives. Both used boys who had a strange outlook on the world as narrators. I felt that this style made the book both interesting, and refreshing compared to normal literature. Reading these books could give kids an idea of just how interesting writing can be if given enough creative license. I feel that these two books are definitely two any kid should read in high school.

  6. The two books I have liked during my high school years are The Lord of the Flies and Nineteen Eighty Four. I read both of the books during my sophomore year when I was studying in New York. During the time, I was experienceing a big intellectual growth myself and started understand reading as a more profound thing to do.
I loved The Lord of the Flies because all the characters in the book were little children. I could more easily put myself in their positions and understand their situation better. Its detailed description was another good thing about the book. The author described not only the basic setting such as the island, or the weather but also the thoughts of the characters and mental states.
Nineteen Eighty Four was such a good book as well. It was surprising when I fist found out that the book was actually written in 1948. I liked how the book describes the worst possible future for us. The government has grown too big for an individual to endure its power. I loved how people become manipulated and played, and the suspense created by the protagonist trying to run away.
These two book I read will remind me of my sophomore year. I still clearly remember the time I finished these books, and I was full of impression. I would recommend these books to anyone, and am confident they will love them.

  7. I think that two books kids should read in high school should be Nineteen Minutes and The Five People You Meet In Heaven. They are great books that i have had to read in school and have suprisingly enjoyed them both. Nineteen Minutes is a good read for students because it shows what could be a possible outcome of bullying. Maybe people would realize the consequences of putting those around you down. I think that The Five People You Meet In Heaven is also a perfect book for highschool kids becasuse it really is a life lesson to appreciate what you have because you never know what could happen tommorow. People these days need tragedy and disaster to realize how lucky they are. They are both good books that were given to me as an assignment by a teacher throughout my high school years.

  8. My favorite book that I would recommend to every high school student is Walk Two Moons. Sal takes a trip to see her grandparents in hopes to also find her mother who disappeared. on her journey she meets with her best friend phoebe who has also lost her mother, the ending is really unexpected. As you read the story, you go through all of Sals struggles and disappointments with her.
Another book is The Catcher In The Rye, this is a book for those who understand foreshadowing. Although the narrator gets off topic alot it leaves you to not expect the ending. As you read the book, you may get thrown off as to where the characters are at one point, but its all just foreshadowing to the surprise ending.

  9. Catcher in The Rye by JD Salinger is a book that should be read by all high school students. It is a story of a high school boy who is running away from becoming an adult. The theme isone that spans time and as the reader goes through the book, the characters seem real.

Most teenagers go through a time in their lives that they both want to grow up and be treated as an adult and they want to stay a little kid. For instance, they want their parents to go to the doctors with them but they want to go to the sea with their friends and stay at a beach house by themselves.
Holden, the main character in Catcher in The Rye, is exactly like this. Like a little kid he hides from his problems but like an adult he fools around with adult things like prostitution. By reading Catcher is the Rye, teenagers can see that other people have problems and they learn to or not to work through them.
Another book that most teenagers would not just pick up but I think was great was MacBeth. At first it was very difficult to understand. I had to read and read it over again. I had to read it in Korean and then reread it in English. However, Mr. Matt made it fun and interesting. There was much fighting in the play and war. Kids should read it.

  10. During my four years of high school, I have read numerous amounts of books and novels. The two that I think that all high school students should read are "Killing Mr. Griffin" and "Hamlet". I really enjoyed both of these stories because they were interesting and suspenseful, which are key elements in a good novel. Even though Hamlet had funny and weird language, it was still a joy to read and follow along.
Killing Mr. Griffin was a book that I can really relate to because the story is about a group of high school students that hate their teacher because he is so strict. They devise a plan to kidnap him, scare him, and teach him a lesson to ease up on his grading and tests. But the kidnapping turns into an unfortunate murder and the kids do not know what to do. This story was real easy to follow along and was filled with suspense right from the start. One of the best books I have read during high school.
For Hamlet, even though it was hard to understand the language and very lengthy, it was still a mastermind by Shakespeare. The whole story was filled with suspense, comedy, and action. Four hundred years later, Shakespeare's Hamlet is still influecning our society through literature and entertainment. Movies, plays, and shows have been influenced and have adapted the story line of Hamlet. The story also shows us today that how madness can affect ourselves. For example, Ohpelia turns crazy after her father's death and drowns herself. Hamlet seems mad and is out to kill his uncle, Claudius. Overall, these two stories can be related to high school students and are very good reads because they are filled with suspense, excitement, and action to say the least.

  11. The first book I would recommend is "Catch Me if You Can". I enjoyed this book and believe that it would appeal to many people in high school. It has a good deal of suspense and it is humorous watching Abagnale get away with cashing $2.5 million in bad checks. It was not difficult to read or understand and I believe it was a very good book.
The second book I would recommend is "The City of Ember". When I read this I thought it was interesting. The book is set in a city underground that is running out of time before the lights in the city fail and they are plunged into darkness. I thought the description of everything in this book was well done. I enjoyed the suspense of the time running out and the struggle to try and save the city. I believe this is a very good book.

  12. Throughout my years of high school, I have read many very good books. I would recommend a vast majority of them. But, as with anything, I do have some favorites. The Red Badge of Courage is by far my favorite book that I have ever read. I would definitely recommend that to anyone either in high school or entering high school. The other book I would highly recommend to anyone interested in a good read would be The 5 People you meet in Heaven. This book was very interesting, easy to read and it also had a great message to go along with each person encountered in the book. The fact that the book was fun and interesting is great. But, what set it apart from others was the moral values it instilled in all readers.

  13. I think every high school student should read “A Child Called It”. This was one of my favorite books I ever read and I would recommend to anyone. In high school it is hard to find time to sit down and read a book because your schedule is very busy and you have other priorities. However, if you find a great book such as “A Child Called It” you will find the time to read because you just can’t put it down. This book was honestly one of the only books that I can say I enjoyed reading and wanted to continue reading it.
As I said before it is hard to find time to read a book so if you do pick a few books to read during your high school career make sure they are good ones that you will remember forever. I will always remember reading the book “A Child Called It” and just about all the other books we read in lit class such as “Black Hawk Down” and “Secret Life of Bees”. Even though I really do not like reading I would recommended those books.

  14. The two books, in my opinion, that every high school student should read are The five people you meet in heaven and Animal Farm. THe five people you meet in heaven has to be one of my all time favorite books. The message it spreads about life and the way we live it really opened my eyes to the way I go about things. This book really makes you think and of course as a high school student basically all we do about is think. The book does not over-complicate things while still achieving a high reading level because of it's thinking factor.
Animal Farm explores the difficult idea of a new society, a society of that runs itself. It is essential to the high school ccurriculum because of it's ideas on anarchy. The book shows how societies workn and offers a take on the real world and what it would be like if this really happened.

  15. Two books I would recommend to any high school student are The Five People you meet in Heaven and The Kite Runner. These are two exceptional books I have read and would like to share with others. The Five People You Meet in Heaven is a good read because it shows everything from a different point of view. It is a lesson learned and can provide readers with many different insights.
The Kite Runner is an exceptional novel about an Afghan boy living in the lonely life. This is a book that shows constant effort to stand out and is relate able to the high school life. I believe both are these books are inspiring and show much effort in society.

  16. I think two books the, at every high school kid should read are To Kill a Mockingbird and Playing with the Enemy. I chose them for a few reasons. One reason i chose these books is because they were the two books i most enjoyed throughout my high school career. Another reason is that they are very interesting and a good read. Im not a big reader but even i enjoyed the read of these books. I also liked them because they both had good stories. The storyline in both of those books were far from any other i have ever read.

  17. The two books i think every high school student should read is Five People You Meet in Heaven and Night. I think they should read these books because the first one is about a guy who dies and goes to heaven and narrates his journey through heaven. The main message in the book is that ever desicion that you make in life always has an effect on not only you but everyone around you. The book Night is about a jewish girl and her determination to survive the concentration camps and escape the terror on the Nazis. Both books have really good life lessons and i think all high school students should read them.

  18. I honestly have to say that even though we had to read so many books during our senior year ii thought that hamlet was my favorite book we read because it had everything we see on tv and in bad movies family drama, revenge, love and all other types of things that go in movies today. The other book i recomend is "The count of monty cristo because one it happens to be a very compeling story due to the major twists and suspense driven themes it has I thought that it could help people learn to get over their past problems and learn to forgive each other.

  19. One book i would recommend to all high school students is Lord of the Flies. I think this book is very interesting and is a good read. Its story line is easy to follow and keeps the attention of the reader. There are no big words so its very easy to understand; this book is great for high school. Another book that i recommend is Catcher in the Rye. This book is a little harder to follow but is a very interesting read. Its story line is very interesting and is easy for teen agers to relate to.

  20. Throughout my high school career I have read many books, but only some of them interested me. This has caused me to actually think about some books that I would recommend to other high schoolers so they don't have to go through that whole long process of reading a book they can't get into. The first book that I would recommend would be The Count of Monte Cristo. The reason I would recommend this book would be that it offers a great story line filled with revenge and treachery which would keep any high schoolers attention as they read. The second book that I would recommend would have to be Hamlet. Even though I read these both this year, they are really good books(even though they look long) that can keep any readers attention and keep them entertained and wanting more the whole time they read.

  21. I would recommend “A long way gone” or “Hamlet”. The reason that I would recommend A long way gone is for the fact that it was a great book, and during the book it teaches you how to overcome problems and how to defend your country. Another thing that I enjoyed about the book is that in which I would recommend is the fact that it shows you what happens in other countries.
Then the reason that I would recommend Hamlet is because it shows you a different but also interesting dialogue. Also the story makes you keep thinking about what will happen next, but also makes you the reader think about what you will do in the same situation. Another reason that I recommend Hamlet is because overall it is a great story and also an enjoyable story.

  22. I think every high school student should read The Catcher in the Rye. This book is great for high school students because it relates to them. The same things that happens to Holden in the book may happen to a teenager. The language he uses is much like the way teenagers talk today so it is much easier to understand. Another book that every high school senior should read is A Long Way Gone. It really shows you ways that young kids have to overcome tough times in third world countries. The book is very good in a way that it makes you feel for kids over there in bad countries. It allows you to see what they go through in times of war.
