I agree with this quote because as a society we are taught that it is illegal and immoral to kill anyone. However during war killing is justified because the soldiers are put in a “kill or be killed situation.” This is a contradiction to our society because the government supports the law to not kill, and at the same time supports war to defend the country. Other laws such as stealing are also irrelevant during war. The soldiers are in a survival mode and must do whatever they have to do to return home alive.
I have two friends that I am very proud of for being involved in the marines. One is currently in training for the marines and has been for about the last year. During his training I have not had a chance to talk to him all that much. However another friend of mine is deciding if joining the marines is the right choice for him. I had a serious conversation with him one time, where he told me that he was concerned about the idea that he would have to kill people that have families and loved one. I completely agree with him I would not be able to kill anyone in any circumstance. I think that our soldiers are very brave and I’m very proud and honored that they fight for us.

I agree with this quote. Civil war is war that occurs in one nation. Those two separated countries in civil war always have negative feelings each other but they can fake and hide their negative feelings each other.
First reason why civil war never over is every countries in civil wars are just on a break. Because the break is too long and never seemas like the break ends, the war is not going to happen forever is not true. North Korea and South Korea for example, they are in civil war break that is really long but actually korean people always have to be nervous and get ready for war becasue the war is not over yet.
Secondly, nobody knows what country is going to attack first. It just happend in Korea. North Korea attacked South Korea with no reason. They didnot seem to attack to be angry but they did. It was so unpredictable and unreasonable. If south Korea attack agains North Korea right away, that is going to be a war again. South Korea even helped North Korea. South Korea felt sympathetic because North Korea is so poor because of communism. Those two country seem to have good conditions each other but it was all fake for North Korea.
In conclusion, I agree with that civil war never end because countries in civil war are just on a break but we don't know how long it is.

I mostly agree with this quote but I also disagree with it. First the government made a law that it is illegal to shot and kill someone but during war it is very fair to kill another human, especially during the civil war when we were killing our own Americans. Also every state has the laws about the legal drinking age is at 21 but when you are in the service the soldiers are drinking on the base at all ages because no one goes around to check for I.D’s. Another reason I agree with it is because the government forces all Americans to pay income tax but when you are a soldier of the U.S. will are not forced to pay until your service is complete.
But I also disagree with the quote. One I think some laws get stricter because the country wants to protect the people so the laws for airports, trains, and buses get stricter to make it safer for the American people. Ever since 9/11, the airport security doubled and it takes forever to get through security on holidays, all to protect the U.S. from a threat again. So all in all, some laws get stricter to protect the people of the US but also some laws are not considered when a soldier of the US.

  4. “One is left with the horrible feeling now that war settles nothing; that to win a war is as disastrous as to lose a war.” - Agatha Christie
I agree with this quote because war for sure leaves a lot of damages and breaks not only to one side but also to the other side that participated in war. Take, for example, World War II. WWII was the most catastrophic and the most disastrous war taken place in human history. In this war, not only the defeated side, which is the Axis, the won side, the Allies was left destroyed and demolished. This fact that those two sides were both impacted is exactly on the same track as the quote.
Recently, without any warning or caution, North Korea bombarded an island close to Seoul, the capital city of the South. We have been on the verge of outbreak of war and been very nervous and afraid of this matter. It has been more than 50 years since Korean War ended(officially, it did not), and people still remember the bitterness and cruelness of war. These people know that war is not going to settle anything, so they formed an organization opposed to war. From this, we all can figure out that war does not benefit anyone on any side. It only leaves damages and scars and horrible memories. And those who win a war are left with terrible feelings that they destroyed buildings, killed people, and demolished their own humanities.

  5. The blog quote I chose was “One is left with the horrible feeling now that war settles nothing; that to win a war is as disastrous as to lose a war.” - Agatha Christie. I chose this one because in war, no matter what side you are on, there will be horrible casualties. People say that they fight for peace, but how is it then we go kill random men and women, just because they don’t have the same opinions as you, or they don’t look like you. How can you truly say that you Fight for Peace. It is an oxymoron. Killing takes away the purpose of what we try to accomplish.
Just like in the poem Easter 1916 says” A terrible beauty is born” that it is a beauty that everyone can rebel and fight for what you believe in, but in reality the end result is terrible because you lose so many lives. When you fight in a war you just promote violence and killing. Sometimes we have to fight that war again (WWI and WWII), causing more deaths. It is a vicious cycle that will continue until we all figure out how horrible these decisions can be.

  6. “The Civil War is not ended; I question whether any serious civil war ever does end.”
I agree with this quote because even though a war may look like it is over, it really never is "totally" over. I say this because there are always small wars going on before, during, and even after a major war. There are always drug and verbal wars still going on even after a Civil War of some sort.
Another thought I have on this is that we never know when a war will end, let alone start. For the past decade, we still have been fighting over seas in the Middle East. We may never know when this war will end. The only thing that we can hope for is to end it completely, with no secondary wars after it was been finished.
In conclusion, I believe that we can never tell when a Civil war will be truly over because there are so many secondary wars and attacks that come after it.

  7. “Laws are silent in time of war.” – Cicero
I agree with this quote becuase I feel see it happeneding on the news. For example during every war that has ever been faught there are prisoners of war that are taken hostage. These prsisoners are treatly terribly and sometimes tortured. Yet, there is no serious legal action taken on the that it is very true and we people that do this. If the prisoners of war were just regular prisoners and they were treated the way they sometimes are the people who torture them would also be thrown in jail. Laws don't seem to matter when it comes to the enemy during times of war.
Also, during a war anything goes on the battle field. It is okay to kill anohter man or woman as long as it is considered "war". If you were to go out and shoot someone you would be thrown in jail for murder, but it is somehow okay to do so in battle and not be arrested. The government does not really even make sure the way the military is humane in the way they kill people in battle. Overall I agree completly that “Laws are silent in time of war.”

  8. I picked the quote “Laws are silent in time of war.” – Cicero. I agree with this quote because war goes against everything we are taught at a very young age. Starting very young, the government teaches us killing is wrong and that horrible people do it. Ergo I believe the government should not send soldiers out to kill unless our country is in trouble and they have no other choice. Other laws that could be broken during time of war are stealing and sometimes rape.
In past wars we learn about in history there is cases of this everywhere. We are taught this is wrong and should still be wrong even in war. I believe killing can be justified if it is to save more lives back home but all the other stuff is never justified yet it still happens and they get away with it. Laws are indeed silent in time of war and one day I hope to see soldiers on both sides with better morals, ridiculous as that sounds it is the right thing to do.

  9. “Laws are silent in time of war.” – Cicero
Laws really are silient in time of war. There is no laws when you are fighting. There is no breaking the law in war. You are just fighting. People are getting out of the town or city to get away from all the death and distruction of war. When there is war, the laws are made by the forces fighting. They don't listen to what the government says. They are taking over and they are going to do what they want to do. The people of the town can do whatever they want if they choose and whatever is considered bad by the army, they will do something about it. The people may not like it but that is how it is. The people can't really change anything. If they try they will probably be defeated. We are taught when we are little that war is a very bad thing. We should not be sending out soldiers unless we absolutely have to.

  10. i chose the quote “Laws are silent in time of war.” – Cicero. I agree with this quote because when a soldier is out fighting and killing it is because of warfare, but if he were to do that just while he was walking down the street, he would be arrested. We know that killing and fighting is wrong, and i know that there is very few things to justify war or violence. We all wish that there was "world peace" but that isnt the case, so in order to survive as a strong military power we have to defend ourselves. Unfortunately war is the way we have to do that.

  11. I chose “The Civil War is not ended; I question whether any serious civil war ever does end.” - T.S. Eliot. I agree with this quote because although there are many countries in the world we are all one people, we are all human. So, just about any time a war is happening anywhere, which is almost always, it is a civil war.
No matter how far away the person may live from you or me, he/she is still a person with hopes, dreams, desires, and feelings. A person who may want to live or win the fight just as much as anyone else does. I think that war may be neccessary sometimes, but any war is always a civil war as we are all family.
