  1. The quote that I chose is “Those who are at war with others are not at peace with themselves.” - William Hazlitt. I chose this quote because I strongly agree with it due to several different reasons. I agree with Mr. Hazlitt’s quote because people who are not happy with themselves, or have a lot going on in their life have the tendency to pick fights or arguments with other people to deal with their problem. In the show Law & Order SVU a young boy bullied a fellow classmate and embarrassed him on several occasions because he was dealing with his father going to jail for rape. The little boy felt that it was his fault his dad was going to jail, and the only way for him to get a hold on anything was for him to continuously bully his classmate. Another example of someone being at war with someone else due to them not being at peace with themselves would have to be high school. Girls talk about other girls, because they aren’t confident in themselves and feel that by making one girl feel low, it’ll boost them up.

  2. The quote i chose is "Those who are at war with others are not at peace with themselves". I chose this quote because it is something that everyone can relate to, for example most people come in contact with having a fight or getting into an arguement with someone in their life wether it be your family, friends, boyfriend ex,noone enjoys doing it and it always has an effect on your mood. If people arent happy with their life or the way things are going they get envious of others when things are going right for them for this reason. When your in school you see people who look perfectly happy, but little do you know how their life outside of school can be unless your friendly with them. The best thing to do is to just try to be nice to everyone because being nice to one person a day can make their day the slightest bit better. In conclusion you shouldnt always take what people say to heart, sometimes they dont mean it and it could just be a bad day for them. Listen to what your heart and mind tells you and it will help lead you to success.

  3. “Those who are at war with others are not at peace with themselves.” - William Hazlitt
I chose this quote because it is very easily understandable. Learning about wars and peace for almost twelve years now, one takes into account a lot of underlying facts. Such that, ones that will help conduct a war are usually people who have internal battles with themselves. Either stemming from family problems, prideful personality qualities or many other flaws. When a person can understand that everyone has their problems and the world may not always be the greatest, is the time they may come to an inner peace. When a person can come to realize that no matter how much you think you know, you know nothing.
A peace that will result from such mental trials and tests d oes not come easy. It takes a long time, requiring alot of work and hardships. The final result will be worth the wait and pain. This quote is very realistic and true because sometimes people get lost in themselves, not able to be recovered from the mental trap they've led themselves into. A basic installation of moral or ethics into a human is what can one day save them alot of agony.

  4. “If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man’s life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility.” - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I completely agree with the above quote and I feel it extremely relevant to today's society but especially to today's young adult. In today's society there is so much selfishness that no one really takes the time to get to know one another’s background or true personality. There is no one person among us that does not have their own pain and suffering. If we as human beings would recognize this, peace would become a lot more easily achievable.

If all young adults thought about this quote by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow before they went online and posted something mean on another person’s Formspring, Facebook, Twitter, etc. High School could be a lot more pleasant. A lot of people who have already been through high school think of it as a bad experience because of all of the judgment that goes on between young adults. This can change, If we take this quote into account in our everyday lives.

  5. 2. “If we could read the secret history of our enemies, we should find in each man’s life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility.” - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

This statement could not be more true in reality. I firmly believe that this is true because of it's message. In simplicity, it is basically saying 'if we all have a mutual understanding of each other, there is no way we could harbor hate for another, and therefore war would be non-existent. In wartime we are told lies about the other people, like 'they are the BAD GUYS' and 'the ENEMY.' In some cases, yes there are threats to security out there, yes there are evil people out there. But there are also just people who believe in their country and are fighting for the same reasons as we are. We need to see it from their standpoint and vice versa.
If we were to look into our "ENEMY's" lives we would see that they suffer the same pains as us, and possibly worse. Then if they were to do the same thing, we could achieve an understanding and begin to build positive relationships with other countries. But in a time of war, all people can see are the enemy, and this dehumanizes them, making understanding completely impossible. In order to achieve peace, we need to see that we are all human beings, and all of us are created equal.

  6. “Those who are at war with others are not at peace with themselves.” - William Hazlitt
I agree with this quote. Someone who is constantly fighting or arguing with others can not possibly be happy with themselves. A peaceful person is someone who trys for peace with everyone and everything, not just some things. It is hard to be happy when you are upset with someone or vice versa. People who start fights, gossip, and drama are in now way peacemakers. It is those people that avoid those kinds of things that are truly happier.

  7. The quote I chose was by William Hazlitt. He said, “Those who are at war with others are not at peace with themselves.” I agree with this quote for a few reasons. First, I think that people, or in some cases countries, start things with other people, or countries just because they are not comfortable with where they are whether it be personally, or even financially. The biggest example of this happening on a worldwide stage is what is currently occurring over in Korea. North Korea attacked South Korea for really no reason. The only reason I can think of is because they felt uncomfortable with their situation.
Another reason I agree with this quote by Mr. Hazlitt is on more of a personal level. In a lot of cases, people who have various flaws about themselves attack or put down people they feel are vulnerable. War on this level occurs pretty much every day at basically every school around the world, I have noticed it many times here at PJP.

  8. 1. “Those who are at war with others are not at peace with themselves.” - William Hazlitt

I highly agree with this quote by William Hazlitt because it is true that if your at war with other people then you are not at peace with yourself. For you to be at peace with youself you must be at peace to everyone else.

Fighting does not solve anything so the only way for everyone to stay under control is make peace with themselves and others around them.

  9. “Those who are at war with others are not at peace with themselves.” - William Hazlitt. I believe with this quote above because it is completely true. This shows that if you are mad or you have something bothering you about yourself you will most likely take it out on someone else to attempt to make yourself feel better yet that is completely false. Bullying may make you feel good about yourself for only a short period of time. For example a good friend of mine used to get bullied in grade school by a bunch of kids, yet now my friend is now the person who is happy and loving life because he now goes to a different school yet all of the kids who bullied him are still acting basically the same way as they did in grade school. The only reason that the kids were bullying was because they were mad at themselves whether it be because of grades or sports no matter the reason they were mad they still were, an just wanted to feel good about themselves demeaned my friend.
This shows that no matter how mad or frustrated, really whatever your problem is whether it is with yourself or about something else you should not take it out on someone else. This quote really just goes to show us that the only way you can have peace with your peers is that you be at peace with yourself.

  10. “Those who are at war with others are not at peace with themselves.” - William Hazlitt

I chose this quote because it was easy to understand as well as linked to reality. To me, this quote is saying people who try to bully or start fights are usually the ones insecure with themselves. This is so true and a reality to the Pope John Paul students. People who are bullies either in person or over the internet may have a problem with themself but usually will not admit it.
The students of PJP are dealing with this "drama" heavily only because people are insecure about themselves. This may not stop, but it will make the kids realize what tey are doing is wrong. I agree with Ingrid when she says people try to pick fights instead of actually dealing with their problem.

  11. “If you want peace, work for justice.” - Pope Paul VI

This quote says that peace is easier to reach if the person or group you are trying to reason with is being reached out to in a reasonable way. If you simply trying to force a dictatorship upon someone then they are less likely to comply with you because you are not being fair.

Hitler did not show Germany justice. He forced many cruel and unusual things upon certain groups of people which was unpeaceful and lacked justice.

  12. “Those who are at war with others are not at peace with themselves.” - William Hazlitt
I chose this quote because this is the whole reaon why there is fighting in the world.People that enjoy fight normaly have self-cnfidence problems and that is what this quote is saying. Its also saying that if you can accept yourself the way you are then you will never be able accept others. If people in the world would just accept themselves and others then the world would be a better place.

  13. i chose the quote “If you want peace, work for justice.” i agree with this quote because peace will never be there without agreement. When people dont agree they fight, and figting is not rite. If we have justice then people will listen and will not fight, a part of justice is agreement, if we all agree then we will not fight. Finally with no fighting there will be peace. Therefore peace will be achieved with total justice between everything. With peace brings happieness.
