1-3: Blogs as biography?

Choose a personal blog (we'll go over specific guidelines and search suggestions in class on 10/19 or 10/20) that reveals the author's personality through its posts.  This blog could focus on family and life OR it could incorporate those elements into posts that seem to be about another topic (like sports or books or movies).

Read through the blog you chose (read back through older posts) to learn about the author.  Look for information about interests, family, personality, school or job, etc.  When you write your analysis, focus on two or three different posts (different dates) on the blog; make sure you incorporate the date for each post into your discussion.  Include the blog's title and url in your first sentence. Your analysis will describe the author, will explain how you discovered this information about the author, and will explain what you learned from analyzing the blog.

Multiple people may analyze the same blog; however, you must focus on different posts on that blog.  Do NOT go over the same information someone else explained.

All responses are due by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 25th.

  1. The blog I read was a sports blog from http://sportsblogs.org/. The first post that I read, that revealed information about the author was written on October 22 by “Margison.” In this post, the author is writing about Rooney, a European soccer player, who was to be traded away to a new team, but then ended up signing a new contract with his current team. The author talked about how his entire family was upset with the impending trade of their favorite player to a team they have long despised. The author says his wife was upset because she did not want to be forced to move to a different home just so she could support her favorite soccer star. These things were revealed about the author when he starting referencing his wife and children about the situation.
The second post that I read was also from October 22. This one was written by “adarowski” and was about the postseason performance of the Texas Rangers pitcher Cliff Lee. The author talked about the pitchers dominance not only this year, but also in previous seasons. The author referenced specific statistics, compared him to other big-time playoff pitchers, as well as offered his/her own analysis. By reading this post, I learned that baseball is a huge part of the authors’ personal life. This was made apparent to me by the great detail the author went into when writing this blog.

  2. The blog I found is called The Personal Blog of Chris Spooner, http://www.chrisspooner.com/.
The author seems to be really interested in web designs, computers, his new iphone, and his dog. You can see this by looking at the categories placed in the right side of the blog.
He seems to have a lot of interest in new technologies. He shows great enthusiasm to upgrade his computer to a better level. We can see that on his writing posted on Sep. 11. He seems to be very excited to have a new program on his laptop. He also seems to have interest in web design or competitions for it. He participates in the website build-off for NET magazine. His design features was highlighted and seen on other blogs. This can be seen on the writing that was posted on Aug. 20. Furthermore, the author really loves his dog. He has posted 30 or more writings or videos about his dog and what the author has done with him. Speicifically, the author explains how he adopted this dog and trained him for over 3 months. You can see that in the video posted on July 13. He really seems to enjoy moments with his dog and do a lot of things with him. Just by analyzing someone's blog, I was able to get a lot of imformation about the person. By watching the videos, I figured out that he is a very outgoing person. By reading his writings, you see how he likes to play with new technologies. I learned that I can learn much about an individual by his materials. Those materials reveal about the person who has them. You do not have to meet and talk to the person to know who he/she really is, because you can always look at things they have done!

  3. http://www.darrenshan.com/news/
Darren Shan is my favorite author so I chose to write about his blog. He is a horror writer and he posts in his blog about family affairs and work updates.
The first post I'll talk about is his July 9th 2009 post. He talks about having a fun time at a party with his family, but then continues to speak about his new book series and how it is progressing. He also writes about seeing the newest Harry Potter movie at the time and compares it to the book. Which in turn leads to him comparing his new movie with his own book and talking about how there are details that are always changed in the process of a movie becoming a book.
The second post I will talk about is his August 28th 2009 post. In this he starts by discussing his work; how he plotted two new books for his newest series. He goes on to discuss some family matters as well as the joys of blogging. He feels it is a good outlet for work and stress. With that he expresses his mourning for a film director he liked who passed away at 59. He then reminisces about his enjoyable times watching movies by said author.
I think through this blog Darren gives his readers insight in the kind of person he is. It seems to me that he is a very kind person and very close to his family, quite ironic as he writes terrifically good horror stories. He seems to love what he is doing and enjoys life, I have gathered this from reading through his blog. It's always interesting to learn a bit about someone that you have some connection to, be it blood relation or as simple as an author-reader relationship.

  5. I thought it would be a good idea to write a blog on someone who I knew how to easily write about, my favorite music artist justin bieber. I searched through his different blogs posted on the popular site twitter.By searching on twitter you can read different posts that justin writes throughout each day. His posts usually consists of information on where he is or what hes doing on that particular day. When going to one of his concerts you can stay updated with his twitter account to get important info of where he is if your looking for an adventure that day. On August 21th Justin posted " New York here i come " he was getting ready to shoot his 3d concert experience that day so his posts were more then usual. The life of justin is very hard to follow but i enjoy every second of his talent.

  6. I decided to write a blog on someone i admired and enjoyed their music. I chose Andrew McMahon because i knew many people would have written blogs on such an inspirational person. He has even written personal blogs on different things that happen to him from day to day. He will post something after a certain show and tell everyone how he felt about it and what occured. For example, he was diagnosed with luekemia in 2008 and he documented every day to show all his fans how he was getting through. I am sure it helped alot of people to see him recovering and fighting off the cancer forever. Blogs that he, and other people write, are a good way for fans to be able to keep up with his day to day life.

  8. The first blog I read was written Oct 24 by David Brown. These blogs by David Brown can be found on http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs?author=David+Brown. In this blog David talks about Vladimir Guerrero. He discusses what effect Vladimir will have in the World Series whether it’s positive or negative. Vladimir is a very good hitter but suffers from bad knees. In the first two games of the World Series the teams cannot use a DH (designated hitter). This mean Vladimir will be forced to sit the bench for the first two games or play in the outfield with his bad knees. The decision the coach will make regarding Vladimir is a huge one because he is a big part of the line up and will have a big impact on the game.
The second blog I read was written Sun Oct 24 by David Brown. This blog is also about a World Series team. But this time it’s about the Giants. He talks about the Giants strategies to beat the Phillies and how they used Tim Lincecum as a relief pitcher to try and shut down the Phillies line up. He says although the use of Tim Lincecum on one day rest did not work it was a very good game plan.

  9. The blog that i have chosen to write about is www.philliesnation.com. The author of the posts i have decided to write about goes by the name of Pat Gallen. From reading a few of his posts i can already tell that this person is a diehard phillies fan. His blogs are filled with stats of all the players, and predictions for upcoming games. He is completely caught up in phillies fever. On thursday october 21st even though the phillies lost he still was optimistic and looking toward the next game hoping for a win to keep the playoff run alive. On wednesday october 20th the blog was filled with stats of the NLCS up until that point. It seems that he puts the phillies first, before just about everything else in his life. For him the Phillies are his life. He has been blogging about the team for the past few seasons and every year he keeps coming back, he truly is a philadelphia phillies fan.

  10. The blog thatm i read about was a Critic blog about movies, the author claimed to be a "messiah of seeing movies" which does sound a little crazy. The one thing i noticed right away was the fact that he was going to disect the movie for all its worth, but only notice the flaws of movies, which means he only picks out negative thoughts about them. Second thing I noticed was that he was only into action movies im pretty sure if your going to call yourself the "messiah of seeing movies" you shouldn't limit yourself to only action based moives, and expand your thoughts on other types pf moives, drama, comedy, etc. I have to give it to him though ive seen some of the movies he's seen i agree with most of the things he's said about some of the action flicks, but an overall "movie critic" is supposed to give his insight on all types of movies not on only one genre of moives

  11. Im doing my blog on Gilbert Arenas, on his Agent Zero Bloghttp://www.nba.com/blog/gilbert_arenas.html.He talks about his life and anything that intrests him throughout the season and the preseason leading up to the next season. On Oct 20th, he talks about how he is ready to play in the upcoming season after missing the end of the previous season because of injury. In another post from the daily blog, he talks about how he chooses to wear a sleeve on his knee to prevent the same injury. One of the final posts of that day is about how he hazes the new rookies and giving them a little treat of how the NBA life is for rookies. On Oct. 12th gilbert talks about his cartoon and how he goes about that. He is an avid artist on his free time from playing basketball. On sept 28th, he talks about his party for being on the cover of the NBA video game and how much of an honor that is for him. Hes also a big video game fan, he sponsors a big name video game team in the pro circut. Im expecting him to continue the blog this season, he couldnt do it last year because he was suspended from the league for bringing registered firearms into the stadium

  12. The blog found waas about a NFL offensive lineman from the Baltimore Ravens, Michael Oher. The blog is from weblogs.baltimoresun.com and the writer is Dave Rosenthal. Michael is a big and very powerful man and he is living life being a part of the NFL but his life was never great because he was a homeless for most of his life until a nice woman took him in as one of her own kids. In the blog it talks about how he went to a foster home and gave the kids his jersey and gave them words of wisdom. He told them to keep their heads, keep fighting, and hope for the best.
From the blog, I learned that Michael and Dave, the writer, both love kids and are inspired by their talents that people can't appreciate cause there are homeless. espcially Michael since hes been in that position from a young age til he was about 18. So

  13. The blog I found intersest in is found on http://www.sportyblog.com/. On October 6, 2010 NFL football notes was about a hall of fame football player who died at the ripe old age of 83. The hall of fame player, George Blanda, played as quarter back and kicker. The anonymous writer has a deep passion for sports. You can tell that this author really concentrates his sports interest on football and its many stats. He is very detailed when describing game situtaions. He gives you every detail to down to the yard line and how much time is left in the game.
In the next blog I read about titled Mariners tell Wakamatsu: You're out! It was posted on August 24, 2010. This blog was about how the Mariners have such a bad record and how they fired their manager. Judging by his emotions toward the decision of firing the manager you could tell he felt a great connection with the team. This was made known to me by the great detail the author went into when talking about this topic.

  14. http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/players/869/roy-halladay. This blog is based on Roy Halladays decision to go to the Philadelphia Phillies. In the website it provides various response blogs to the article posted. The article itself, blatently shows its standpoint on Roy Halladay and his decisions in the MLB (Major League Baseball). In addition to the informational statistics of Roy Halladays MLB career, it gives a play by play of his accomplishments. It is obvious that the writer of this article is either a fan of roy halladay or a fan of the philadelphia phillies. In response to some of the posts, people show there biased against Roy and his Phillies.

  15. The blog I chose was http://www.saintsgab.com/ tells about all the different kinds of information about the New Orleans Saints, my favorite sports team. It is sometimes hard to get instant information on them because they are not like the eagles, a local and favored team. So the easiest way to find out who is out with an injury this week, or who they attained in a trade, is to view this blog website. Sheletha Jones a credible writer from New Orleans writes about all different entertainments including music and sports all through Louisiana. By his passionate writing he shows his true fanhood on all aspects of the Saints franchise. I found out about this person from other informative websites that describes him. By looking at this blog you can get instant access to upcoming news and tickets for games and programmed events.

  16. The blog I have chosen to write about is Tiger Wood's Blog which is http://web.tigerwoods.com/news/tigerBlog. The author of the blog just happens to be Tiger Woods himself. The blog I am writing about was posted on October 5th, 2009. His blog is about his 2009 season. http://web.tigerwoods.com/news/article/200910057334802/blog/ 2009 season was probably one of Tiger's best season's in which he won at least 7 tournaments. By far this was one of his best seasons in his career. I watched that season and it was incredible how consistent he was he. He had everything down pact. His short game was incredible and putting was flawless. In his 2009 season he won the FedEx Cup in which he had the most points and won a lot of money because he won that tournament. Winning the FedEx Cup shows that Tiger placed the highest in the tournaments he played in. This shows why Tiger Woods has been the best golfer for 6 straight years.

  17. I read a blog from James Rocchi. http://blog.moviefone.com/2008/07/14/review-the-dark-knight-jamess-take/ His blog is about the movie bat man the dark night. I figured this would be a good blog topic because it’s one of my favorite movies. I think James is very opinionated about movies in general not just this one. Because he talks about previous versions of batman movies, comics, etc. saying some were good and some were not, this shows that he really thinks about movies to form an opinion. He definitely liked the movies and even says that his expectations were over-shattered. He talks about the role of Heath ledger, which shows that he has a lot of admiration for good actors, because he goes on to say it was “Oscar worthy.”
The author of the blog seems to like action packed movies and good story lines. He mentions how the movie never got boring for him. He also talks about a critic of the batman movies and shows that he does not agree with them. This shows the the author is out-spoken and likes his opinion to be heard.
Another thing I noticed is that he is very informational. In response to some of the comments people left him he clarifies what he was saying. In the first half of the blog he seemed pretty unbiased and factual and then he showed his opinion.

  18. I thought it would be interesting to write about a great baseball team, the phillies. This blog was written by Corey Seidman. He is 21 year-old sportswriter/aspiring attorney. Currently a staff writer for PhilliesNation.com, & Graphics Coordinator for every sport CSN/Comcast Network televises. His blog is very opinionated. yet it states a lot of facts to support what he is saying. For instance when he says "the Phillies used a 25-man roster of superstars" it is factual information plus his opinion on the team. I would definitely consider him a reliable source for phillies information. The blog that i read was his opinion on the phillies 2010 season and how some of his predictions for the team came true. The blog was easy to read and very interesting. I would recommend it to any phillies fan.

  19. The blog I chose to wrote about was about Pat Gallen, a sports writer for the Philadelphia Phillies. Over the past couple a days, he has posted blogs about the aftermath of the Phillies elimination from the 2010 MLB Playoffs. On Sunday Oct. 24, he posted a video interview of Ryan Howard about his thoughts on their early exit from the playoffs. Howard says that even though it is not as satisfying as they would like it to be, it is still a blessing to be playing in the postseason and to make it that far.
This Monday morning,, Oct. 25, Gallen posted two questions and two issues he thinks will be critical during this offseason. The two questions he addressed were: "Will Jayson Werth return?" and "Can they unload some weight?" The two issues he posted were: The bullpen - how they can get better for next year, and will there be any "crazy moves" made in this offseason. (ex: Roy Halladay)
I learned that Pat Gallen shows faith and heart into the Philadelphia Phillies. He knows what he is talking about and should be recognized for that. He will keep his "Phillies faith" and keep on supporting for next year.

  20. The blog that I chose to read was from http://www.breastcancervictory.com/about/ which was about a breast cancer survivor. Her blog posts were primarily a timeline about her having breast cancer. Her first blog post was about the time she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her later blog posts were about the continuous chemo procedures, and cat scans that she had to have. She also talked about how she didn’t think she would survive through it, but her family and her faith kept her strong. Through this blog I found out that this author is very strong willed, and she is an example that other breast cancer patients should follow. Just because you’re diagnosed with breast cancer does not mean you will not get through it. By looking at this blog, you can get a first hand account on the challenges that breast cancer patients overcome.
