2-4 A: Christmas Reading

'Tis the time to wrap presents, sing carols, visit family, and . . . read! Your task is to recommend a book to your classmates. Of course, you should not give away the ending or other essential information that would ruin someone's reading pleasure, but you DO need to "sell" the book to your peers by making it sound enticing and irresistible to your classmates. Make sure that you include specific ideas from the book and that you let us know what interests will be sparked by this book (in other words, into what categories would you put the book? Why?).

This response might require 1 long paragraph instead of 2 paragraphs, but your response must still be detailed and developed!

No more than THREE people may recommend the same book; if you DO recommend the same book as one or two other people, DO NOT include any of the same ideas as those other people (I would prefer that each person recommends a different book).

All responses are due by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4th.

  1. A good book that you should read during the Christmas season would be “The Night Before Christmas”-Clement C. Moore. I would recommend this story because it is an easy yet enjoyable read. Well the title basically explains it all. In the story you are being told about what goes on during the night before Christmas. Throughout the story there is great detail allowing you to imagine what is being told throughout. Such as telling you what the house looks like and even the sounds they are hearing, also even what they are imaging will happen.
Overall I would recommend this story to anyone who wants to read a story about the Christmas season. This is a good book to read to anyone no matter the age.

  2. A book that I would highly recomend reading would be The Five People You Meet In Heaven. Thi book takes you on a journey through heaven and the people you will meet there, someone who has changed your life or someones life you have changed. This book follows through Eddies life and shows what he has been through and the people he encountered. He helped his fatheras a maitnence man on Rubys Peir and grew up watching his every move. After serving in the war he comes back to the love of his life and his father was sick, he then decided to step in and do all of the work. He died on his 83rd birthday. This book will make you realize that no matter what, you have some kind of impact on someone weither you realize it or not. This book is a very easy read and it will touch you. (not literally, beucase that would just be weird)

  3. The book I would recommend to my peers to read over the Christmas break is called “It’s Kind Of a Funny Story” by Ned Vizzini, you may be saying to yourself right now that this sounds familiar, which is probably because it has been made into a movie. Although I do highly recommend that you read the book before you see the movie. I have not yet seen the movie but from past experiences I know that sometimes movies that are made after books sometimes do not exactly do the original book justice.
This book is about a young boy in high school suffering from depression. Although this may make you think that this book may be kind of a downer, the book is actually somewhat comical in a strange way. After the young boy contemplates suicide, he checks himself into the hospital and meets an array of very interesting, funny, and beautiful people. He also meets a girl that he begins to fall in love with. I think this is a great book to read, even if you can not relate to the main character in the sense of being depressed, I know that all my peers can definitely relate to some of the hardships the young boy faces such as being stressed about school related things, peer pressure, loss, and social situations. This is my favorite book of all time and I hope that my peers take my advice and read it. It is definitely a life changing book!
